Incorrect file format
Inside block:
We only accept files in .pdf format. We work on finished, "closed" files and do not interfere with the design.
Cover:
*.PDF (recommended).
*.TIFF – all layers must be flattened and the file exported without conversion.
*.JPG – minimum resolution 300 DPI.
The block format does not match the order
All pages in the file should have the same dimensions as specified in the order.
If bleeds appear only on some of the pages, all pages should be prepared in the gross format (with bleeds).
Incorrectly prepared cover
To avoid problems with an incorrectly prepared cover format, we recommend using our cover template generator.
The generator can be found HERE.
Incorrect number of pages in the book
The number of pages in the book must be even and consistent with the order.
For sewn books, the number of pages must be divisible by 4;
otherwise, blank pages will be added at the end of the inside block.
Pagination on the wrong page
As standard, an odd number should appear on an odd page (in the file).
If an odd number appears on an even page and this is not described when placing the order, the order will be put on hold pending clarification.
Colour pages not specified
When ordering books with colour pages, you must specify the page numbers on which these colours appear.
In addition, the remaining pages intended for black-and-white printing should be converted to greyscale.
Inside block file as spreads instead of single pages
We do not accept files in which the inside block contains spreads.
Pages should be single and arranged in the correct order from first to last.
Missing bleeds
The design should include 3 mm of bleed on each side, even if the bleed occurs on only one side.
NOTE: For sewn books, the internal bleed in the block should be removed.
Bleed / artwork not joined across the spread
For sewn books, when the block has its internal bleeds removed and the artwork extends to its inner edge, make sure that the artwork joins up as it crosses from one page to the other.
Fonts not embedded / not converted to curves
All fonts used must be added to the file (embedded) or converted to curves (turned into outlines).
Embedding fonts is recommended, with conversion to curves only as a last resort, because once the fonts are converted to vectors the file size increases significantly.
Colour images not converted to black-and-white for MONO printing
It is very important that images intended for black-and-white printing are converted to greyscale.
Otherwise, the machine will convert them automatically and the images may come out too dark.
Black elements with a saturation lower than 10% K
Elements in which the K component is lower than 10% may, once printed, be very faintly visible or completely invisible.
Black text in CMYK separations instead of 100% K
All black text should be in 100% K separations (C:0, M:0, Y:0, K:100).
Presence of additional colours other than CMYK
If the design contains additional colours other than CMYK (e.g. Pantone), they will be automatically converted to the CMYK colour space, which may cause a significant difference in colour.
White overprint
White overprint should be turned off. Using it may result in some elements not being printed.
Important elements too close to the edge
The minimum margin that must be maintained is 3 mm. However, we recommend that it be 5 mm.
Barcode in CMYK separations
All barcodes should be in 100% K. If a barcode is in another colour (e.g. green), there is a risk that it will be unreadable for a barcode scanner.
We encourage you to use our barcode generator.
